TERENZIN family camp REMEMBRANCE DAY IN ATHENS. Sunday 8 of March 2026

We honoured the Terezín victims at the Athens Holocaust Memorial. The memory of the 3,972 victims reminds us why we must never forget.

We were honoured to attend the 8 of March the Act of Remembrance at the Holocaust Memorial of Athens, commemorating the 3,792 victims of the Terezín family camp BIIb in Auschwitz II-Birkenau, who were murdered on the night of 8–9 March 1944. The ceremony was organized by Ivo Šilhavý, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Greece together with Marcela Hanusová, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic; Stavros Avgoustides, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus; and Noam Katz, Ambassador of the State of Israel, with the kind support of the Jewish Community of Athens.

Together we lit candles in memory of the victims in a deeply moving moment of remembrance and reflection. 

Being present at such a ceremony is a way of standing witness—diplomats, community members, and citizens sharing a quiet but powerful moment of reflection. May their memory be eternal. 🕯️ #HolocaustRemembrance #Czech_Republic #Terenzin

Elias Frezis, Director del Comité Central de las Comunidades Judías de toda Grecia, y Ángela Arbeláez tuvimos el honor de asistir el 8 de marzo al Acto de Recuerdo en el Memorial del Holocausto de Atenas, en conmemoración de las 3.792 víctimas del campo familiar de Terezín BIIb en Auschwitz II-Birkenau, asesinadas en la noche del 8 al 9 de marzo de 1944.

La ceremonia fue una iniciativa de S.E. Ivo Šilhavý, Embajador de la República Checa en Grecia, organizada junto con Marcela Hanusová, Embajadora de la República Eslovaca; Stavros Avgoustides, Embajador de la República de Chipre; y Noam Katz, Embajador del Estado de Israel, con el amable apoyo de la Comunidad Judía de Atenas.

Juntos encendimos velas en memoria de las víctimas, en un momento profundamente emotivo de recuerdo y reflexión.
El Rabino Gabriel Negrin ofreció una oración memorial en memoria de las vidas inocentes que se perdieron.

Estar presentes en una ceremonia como esta es una manera de dar testimonio: diplomáticos, miembros de la comunidad y ciudadanos compartiendo un momento silencioso pero poderoso de reflexión.
